What this covers
- ✓Power out to part of the house or all of it
- ✓Sparking or scorched outlets and switches
- ✓A burning smell or a hot, buzzing panel
- ✓A breaker that trips again the moment you reset it
- ✓Lights or outlets that died after a storm or a surge
When to call
- !You smell burning plastic or see scorch marks — turn the circuit off at the breaker if it’s safe to reach, and call.
- !A breaker trips the moment you reset it — don’t keep resetting it; something on that circuit is faulting.
- !Part of the house has power and part doesn’t.
- !Any visible smoke or fire: get out and call 911 first, then call an electrician.

Technical side
Located the open circuit, replaced the failed receptacle and feed, and verified correct polarity and ground with a circuit analyzer.
